Pretty simple as far as materials go, and yet the results are quite charming.

I have this great shimmer paper that I recently found in a local crafts store, and combined with two other shades of purple I already had, I cut out some paper petals and created this flower.

It's about 6"-7" wide and it can be great as:

A book loving bride recently contacted me about creating her wedding flowers and besides sharing her vision of a book-themed wedding (with simple yet stunning table centerpieces of her and the groom's favorite hardcover novels stacked under unassuming Mason jars filled with water and floating candles), she asked me if I could make her bridal bouquet in YELLOWS, BLUES and BOOK PAGES touched with turquoise blue ink..

How magically romantic is that!

I personally love this sunny palette so it was a great pleasure to create her flowers.

Seen below are the Bridal Bouquet, the Maid of Honor Bouquet and the Junior Bridesmaid Bouquet.

I'm also making a pomander for the flower girl, the groomsmen boutonnieres and corsages for the mothers.

RED, TAUPE and WHITE - - - Wall Flowers

There is something very comforting in this lovely palette, like a smooth delicious desert when you most need it: Strawberries dipped in Cream over Graham Cracker crust. Yum!

In this case, I used the colors RED, TAUPE and WHITE to create paper flowers which can be hanged on the wall of a favorite room (like so).

This lovely piece was created for Sandra who wanted a wedding bouquet in RED, CHAMPAGNE AND WHITE.

I made roses in red and peonies in white, and for the "champagne" part of the palette I used book paper to create more roses (touched with ink to give the petals more definition).

Red and white paper lace butterflies complement the flowers and a lovely high quality satin ribbon ties it all together.

This "Baby sleeping father hands" Giclee print by OrangeOptimist on Etsy catches the most perfect news in my life perfectly.

My baby boy has arrived, healthy and hungry, and occupies my nights and days with perfect efficiency :) Dad is here to lend a helpful hand, but it's up to mama to keep him happy and well-fed.

So, on that note, I'll be taking a little break from blogging and creating paper pieces for a few weeks, just so I can bond with my boy and recover.

Cobalt Blue and Yellow

I'm in the process of making paper flowers for a very special June wedding.

The palette is cobalt blue and yellow.

The vision: a book lovers' wedding with thoughtful vintage touches.

The flowers for the bridal bouquet, as well as for the other pieces, like bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages, are still in the early stages, so in the next couple of months I'll post updates about my progress, as well as show the finished pieces.

For now, I'll just enjoy in the inspiration that this fresh color palette brings to mind: crisp skies, warm sunshine, well-loved vintage touches, pearly sophistication, afternoons with books, and a happy wedding on a clear summer's day.

Ivory Gold Pomanders for Anna's Wedding

I just received this happy photo from one of my favorite Etsy clients, Anna, who had her wedding this summer.

She wanted paper flower spheres for her five flower girls in an ivory gold palette, and she wanted each pomander personalized with the girl's name. It was such a sweet idea, I couldn't resist it :)

So, for Emma, Mya, Lexi, Kiki and Hanne I made paper butterflies to carry their names in gold ink, and attached them to the paper roses in colors ranging from soft white to gold and polka-dot yellow.

I'm so happy these paper flowers made it to such a nice wedding and that Anna and the girls were happy with them.

For a person who likes to play with paper, there is nothing so rewarding as knowing that your paper creations have found a good home with people who will appreciate them.

Autumn Sun Through Vellum

Want simple lighting decorations for a casual party?

You'll need about 4 things:

vellum paper
a few glass jars lids
double sided tape
battery-operated LED tea lights

Cut out the paper as needed to wrap it around the lid, then use double sided tape to secure it and drop one LED tea light in each lamp.

These look lovely when lit up, and especially lovely on a sunny afternoon.

Vanilla Cream and Turquoise FLEUR DE LIS

Sometimes a paper is so gorgeous that you don't want to cut it or mess with it in any way, always keeping it for something more special along the way.

My vanilla-colored fleur-de-lis-patterned paper fits in this category.

I enjoyed it too much to ever want to do anything with it. So it stayed untouched for a long time. And then, in one afternoon, I decided to finally use it for something pretty and meaningful and made these 3 paper flowers.

What makes these flowers so special?

Hand-cut petals, folded and inked, then glued into place to form the flowers;
Lovely silverish pearly beads for the centers;
Wired stems which can be twisted in any direction or form, or kept straight for easy displaying in a simple vase;
Most of all - this lovely lovely designer paper, evocative of rustic elegance and shabby chic awesomeness.

Pink Gold Paper Flowers

Cambridge, MA was hidden behind a thick layer of misty fog today. Very gray and dull... But a violent rain this afternoon cheered things up a bit and even introduced a bit of sunlight before a second round of showers.
Just in time for me to take some pictures of the new pink flowers I've been working on.

I've come up with golden pink roses (striped pink paper touched with luscious gold ink) and spiky paper flowers with shimmer paper centers.

The cheerful pics of the whole bunch can be seen in more detail below.

A deer, a rabbit, a squirrel and a badger

I have always loved to draw and dabble in watercolors, but it's been years since my last attempt. A couple of weeks ago I started thinking about it again. Unsure at first, I started to draw an animal, and little by little, it started to actually look like one :)

The inspiration behind the effort was the idea that I'd maybe create some kind of watercolor art for my soon-to-be-born son's nursery.

I hadn't done it in a really long time that I wasn't too sure I'd pull it off with these little forest animal drawings, but now that they are actually done, I feel so happy and proud of them.

The drawings were partly inspired by Esop's fables (which both me and my husband used to read as kids), from illustrations in old-school children's books that we received from a close friend and from me spending hours looking at animal prints on Etsy.

As you can see in the pics below, each animal drawing is mounted on a couple of layers of designer paper, which I'll hang on the wall next to the baby's crib using push-pins instead of picture frames (for fear of them crashing down and hurting my baby).

I'll post more pictures of the wall art once it is set up in the nursery.

I had this brown paper with green leaves laying around and decided to make something happy with it. Hence - the big brown daisies with pretty brown and green buttons.

Each petal is cut and inked by hand, than folded and glued into a daisy-like shape.

It's getting chilly this September... This morning I wore my long sleeves around the house and thought of getting the winter clothes out from their hiding place from under the bed.

There's no doubt about it - autumn days are here.

And, with them, I get more and more drawn to cozy afternoons curled with a book, a hot soup and something hand-knit to wear. My sweet old granny from Macedonia sent me a pretty awesome collection of woolen socks that she knit especially for me this summer. I was looking at them the other day wondering when I'd get to wear them, but now I see that I won't have to wait until December. It's probably going to be much sooner than that.

Anyways, with colder weather, I start to notice how quickly this autumn has arrived.

I see it in the bright yellow, orange and red produce we get from our CSA farm; in the leaves changing color outside our windows; in the splash of occasional cold rain and the ever-decreasing sunlight dancing on the walls of our living room.

Inspired by the colors of fall and feelings about fall, I made these paper daisies with cheerful buttons and handmade paper leaves.

1st Anniversary Gift - A paper flowers copy of the bride's bouquet

The paper flowers I've been making based on one very special bride's wedding bouquet from 1 year ago are finally ready!

I worked on them for a few weeks and one by one, the petals came together and each blossom formed and folded by hand found its place in one of the loveliest bouquets I've ever made.

I was especially thrilled to work on a piece in a palette I haven't used before: hot pinks, deep purple, lilac and soft white.

This bouquet was constructed from:

paper roses
paper daisies
paper orchids
paper hydrangea
paper peonies

The flowers have been enhanced with pearl and crystal accents and custom touches of different inks. A dab of glitter glue here and there makes the bouquet sparkle.

I'll be sending it to the groom, Rob, tomorrow morning so he can wrap it in a fabric piece of his wife's bridal gown and present it to her as a 1st anniversary gift. Very thoughtful of him, don't you think?

Some time ago I received an unusual request through Etsy.

First of all, it was the groom who contacted me (I usually get emails from brides or ladies in the wedding party).

Second of all, he sent me these pictures asking me if I could re-create his bride's bouquet in paper flowers.

It was to be a gift for her for their first anniversary.

How could I say "No"?

This is such a sweet idea, that I decided to do my best and create this beautiful gift.

So far, I have most of the paper roses all ready, as well as orchids and a few of the hydrangea blossoms. A paper daisy is coming along nicely, too.

So, hopefully, in the next few days I'll have the whole piece finished.

In the meantime, here's a peek at what I have done so far.

Elegant Autumn Wedding

Autumn is just days away, and something about seeing apples and pumpkins everywhere inspires me to dream in autumn colors and scents.

Even our CSA shares (from Red Fire Farm in Granby, MA) have been colored scarlet, purple and amber by the freshest crop of peppers, eggplant and squashes. Is there anything else quite like the abundance of fall harvests?

So, no wonder I think about flowers in fall palettes all day long.

I just finished one fall-inspired bouquet and I'm currently working on a couple of other pieces.

One of the bouquets to come is a copy in paper flowers of an actual bridal bouquet. The groom contacted me to create the paper flowers version of his bride's bouquet as a gift for their first anniversary. I think it's such a sweet idea that I couldn't resist taking on the challenge.

I'll blog about my progress on this piece in the next few days.

How To Make Paper Leaves

Paper leaves are easy to make.

All you need is:

paper
ruffled edge scissors
glitter gel pens
ink

First, cut out leaf-like shapes from a nice paper with the decorated edge scissors.

Lightly touch the leaf with ink to give it more depth, then draw the veins with a gel pen in a contrasting color.

You can glue the leaf to a flower, or wire it and wrap it in floral tape.

And, voila - - - a paper leaf, ready to complement a paper flower (in this case, a bookmark paper flower).

How To Make Paper Roses

Making roses from hand-cut paper petals is one of my greatest joys.

When the paper is right: pliable, heavy-weight and in a pretty color like this candy pink, the whole experience is all the more enjoyable.

There are countless ways to make a paper rose.

You could try the way Paula taught me (via her blog), or you could try this method I came up with this Saturday.

The tutorial is all mine, but you are most welcome to try it.

Deep Wine and Pink Champagne Paper Flowers for Joslyn's Wedding

This bouquet was constructed from handmade paper flowers and butterflies to match Joslyn's vision of a vintage style, old Hollywood wedding.

Her palette: deep red, pink champagne, mauve, etc, was the starting point for the flowers, to which I added embellishments, such as, lace butterflies with crystals, tiny glittered butterflies, metal flower charms, pearls, vintage buttons and lovely red satin ribbon.

Joslyn also asked me to make her paper roses for the boutonierres and corsages for her wedding party.

She wanted champagne roses with some wine accents for the centers, so I used petals in deep wine and dark red pearls.

Each rose is wired and has a paper leaf made of two layers of papers. The rose petals come in three shades: shimmer ivory, champagne and deep wine.

Two of the roses needed to be extra special, so I added lace paper butterflies and double paper leaves.

Each flower is wrapped in deep red satin ribbon, which can be tucked into a button hole, or twisted around the wrist as a corsage.

Raspberry Red, Gray & Ivory - Color Combo for a Beautiful Wedding

When an Etsy customer from the U.K. contacted me to create her wedding bouquet in her colors: raspberry red, gray and ivory, I did my research and found these amazing papers at my local crafts stores...

I love it when I come across a designer paper that embodies both the colors that I'm looking for, and a wonderful weight and texture that makes folding paper petals all the more enjoyable.

In this case, the paper I fell in love with is red, bright bright raspberry red, with silver brocade flowers printed on it - the highlights add this lovely sheen when the red paper peonies in the picture are seen in different lights. My favorite so far is the full-bright sunlight falling directly on the bouquet. It also looks pretty neat under a dusky lamp light from, especially from a sharp angle.

In any case, a joy to look at!

The other papers that I used for the creation of this bridal bouquet include:

shimmer paper in several shades of silver gray and ivory,
white paper for the lace butterflies.

To accent the silverish tones in the paper roses and peonies, I added pearly centers in silver, ivory and white. I also used different ribbons to tie it all together: red satin ribbon, gray satin ribbon and a piece of sheer ribbon in ivory.

This spring-like pink and greens bouquet came to exist on a midsummer's day after I couldn't resist making paper flowers from these beautiful designer papers.

A pink peony here,

a green rose there,

of all the bits and pieces,

something very bouquet-like was born ...

It is probably one of my favorite color combinations - it reminds me of a fresh sunny day about to rise over a green meadow :)

Paper Wall Flower with Crystal Bead

I have this amazing taupe paper with silver brocade flowers printed on top that is just perfect for fall/winter palettes.

So far, I've made little 2" paper roses from it, 3" daisies and the latest creation - a bigger than your palm wall flowers with stunning crystal bead centers.

I love the little silver accents the light brings out from folded paper petals, and having the edges inked in a darker shade of taupe only makes them more special :)

This one is a flower for hanging on the wall or decorating a gift box with, but I can't wait to put the rest of the flowers on stalks and give them leaves. They would look lovely in a vase, I'm sure.

Red Aqua Paper Flowers Wedding Bouquet

Two years ago, I would have wanted a bridal bouquet just like this one... The color palette for our wedding was red, white and aqua, and this would have fitted perfectly.

Alas,... that's when I only started making paper flowers and didn't yet know how to fold a paper rose or create a paper peony... so my wedding bouquet was made of actual roses to which I added wired pearls.

Almost two years and thousands of paper flowers later, I'm still in love with this color scheme. It's dramatic and vivid and nothing contrasts blue so well as red.

For these flowers, I used only the best papers in a few shades of shimmer blues, lipstick red and shimmer white.

Inks and pearls complement the flowers, which are all wired, wrapped and tied together with a lovely turquoise ribbon.

I also added a blue polka-dot ribbon, just for fun :)

First I made a paper flowers pomander in pink, red and white roses, and then, on the behest of an Etsy client, I made its twin.

These two will go to a fresh and creative summer wedding in Cambridge, UK.

The latest project involved making a corsage for her wedding (to be worn by her young daughter).

I used a paper rose and petals made of vellum paper to create the flower, then glued it all to a satin ribbon which can be tied around the hand in a knot.

Dirty Gold Peacock Paper Flower

There is something carnal about this flower.

... Or maybe that's just how I see it.

Dark shades of grey, black intertwined with white stripes give the sort of wild background to flashes of peacock feathers in green and gold and the occasional golden bronze swirl.

The paper was manipulated by punching, inking, distressing, folding, creasing, gluing, until a sophisticated shape emerged and a flower was born.

It can be hanged on a wall, perched on top of a gift box, tied on the wrist as a corsage, worn as a pin, and anything else you can think of.

Inspired by Heidi's vision of emerald greens for her wedding, I created the remaining pieces of her wedding paper flowers: the bouquets for her Maid of Honor and her two bridesmaids.

The paper roses were made from the pages of a book, wired and wrapped and touched with green ink.

The other flowers were made from shimmer papers with added pearls and other embellishments.

I also made a few green butterflies with crystal accents to land on the delicate flowers and give that extra charm to these bouquets.

The shape of the paper flowers for this bouquet are brand new - I came up with it while I was thinking of something else.

What started as a prototype of the flower from a piece of cream paper soon evolved into a sophisticated bloom that requires all of one's skills (well not all, but certainly some), such as:

Green is not the most popular color for wedding bouquets, but sometimes, when a bride has a vision, emerald greens are just the fresh crispy thing one needs to color a beautiful summer wedding.

The bride in this case, Heidi, asked me to create roses from book pages and touch them with green inks, add emerald touches and construct bouquets for her and her wedding party.

Ivory Gold Pomanders For 5 Flower Girls

These flower spheres were created specifically for 5 flower girls with sweet sounding names like: Emma, Mya, Lexi, Kiki and Hanne.

I used designer papers in different prints, vellum papers with polka dots, and gold ink in various shades to add depth to the rose petals.

Handmade butterflies, pearls, jewels and a light touch of glitter add the extra charm, and a sheer ribbon in ivory ties it all together.

One Elegant Summer

This is the theme of one very special summer wedding. The bride, Holly, told me of her vision of bright blue summer skies, grass and a general sense of freshness.

For the last couple of months I have been busy making paper flowers to construct pomanders for summer and fall weddings. These two, for example, were made for Kim, who wanted flowers in burgundy, shades of rich red, and with highlights in yellow and orange, based on this paper flower sphere.

For the roses I used shimmer papers, polka-dot prints, solid reds and nicely inked each petal to give it a better definition.

The orange details are tiny flowers scattered between the roses, and the dashes of yellow are represented in the handmade butterflies with crystals.

My friend Belinda, for whom I made several kinds of paper flower decorations for her daughter Lizzie's wedding, has recently started her very own blog, where she showcases her own paper creations.

Sculpted paper flowers as LED tea light holders

I posted a picture of a few paper flower LED light holders some time in December, and just wanted to share this version of the paper flowers doubling as tea light holders, too.

These are made from red paper, cut and folded by hand, then glued together to form a flower bulb.

The little LED tealights could last forever. I've had these since my wedding in September 2009.

And when the battery eventually dies, it can be recharged or replaced with a new one. Brilliant!

hand-sewn paper butterfly - part II

I recently made a lilac paper butterfly and used a pretty red silk thread to stitch the pattern on the wings.

This butterfly is the smaller 5-6" version.

The idea is the same: paper-piecing, silk thread and wire to create the body of the butterfly.

It is painstaking work to create such prettiness, but I so love the final effect that I had to make this double as a wall art piece.

A small wire loop was attached at the back to allow the butterfly to land on your favorite wall piece, picture frame, or a paper flower you happened to have hanging around... :)

Green LED Paper Flowers - Wedding Centerpieces

Some time ago I made a paper flower that glows in the dark with the light of 10 LED lights. I still keep it in my home - nothing better than some blue light on a winter night - makes everything more wintery :)

This time, I made 10 paper flowers with 20 LEDs in several shades of green - not just because I like to dabble in green, but because there's a creative March wedding in the works - a great event I'm happy to be a part of.

Anyways, these paper flowers, along with my favorite wall flowers will be the star decorations at the reception. They look pretty as they are, but especially enchanting when lit up.

I'm sending these babies to my friend Belinda, and come March, I'll post a few photos from the wedding, too.

The idea for this hand sewn butterfly came to me from the fabric sewn moths made by an artist that goes by the name of BlueTerracotta on Etsy.

I had some nice silk stitching thread and pretty lavender paper, so piece by piece, stitch-by-stitch, the butterfly got its beautifully detailed wings.

I added a bit of wire at the back to make it easy to hang on the wall.

Anyone who has visited my blog knows that I have a thing for handmade butterflies. I love to make them from paper, throw in a dash of glitter, a touch of ink, a crystal or a pearl or two, and use the little darlings on gift boxes, bouquets, pomanders, picture frames, floating around candles, and so on.

This morning, after my 1.5 mile walk to work in this freezing weather, I found something amazing that made me warm almost instantly. You know, the way only a spark of imagination and excitement can make you go from a sneezing snowman to a bright-cheeked creative person :)

Monarch Butterflies Landing on a Paper Flowers Pomander

This was created on a Sunday afternoon during a dull rain over Boston and Cambridge.

First I made the 20 paper roses from papers in shimmering pink, white, and designer prints. Thanks to my newly-purchased cat-eye inks, each rose petal gets its own definition and depth.

The white paper butterflies were added at the end. They are Monarchs, pretty as can be, and quite delicate.

This could be a gorgeous handmade decoration for a wedding, birthday party, garden party, or just a pretty something to cheer up a favorite room.

The whole thing measures about 5" in diameter, and for a limited time can be seen in my shop.

Lights in December

As I go home after work, my train ride takes me through dark Massachusetts forrests, fields and mini-lakes.

In December, these rides happen in the dark.

As my train rushes through the cold night, sometimes the darkness is broken by a flash of Christmas lights outlining houses, porches and windows.

I see a random street drenched in yellow light here and there. Some car's headlights. Some inflated Snowman sitting in the yard.

I see them for a split second before they disappear behind.

Flash, and they're gone.

But sometimes it's all it takes to make you warm.

Paper Peony as Cake Topper

This paper peony is one in a series I made for a fellow Etsy artist. She will use these to decorate a baby shower "cake" constructed from baby clothes.

I love the idea of baby shower decorations made from baby-friendly materials. A while back, we sent a baby bunch bouquet to my sister-in-law in Graz the day she had her daughter. The flowers were made from baby clothes, with small buds here and there made from wood - for keepsake.

I can't wait to see what Jennifer will create with my paper flowers. Not to reveal too much, but I've seen some of her work, and it is quite lovely.

Making Paper Decorations and Paper Flowers Bouquets

Ever since I started creating paper pieces for my wedding, constructing individual flowers and butterflies that would one day become a part of something greater (like a paper flowers bouquet) has brought me many many hours of happiness.

I find it also brings me peace.

My wedding day came and went in a daze, but the joy of making something with my hands has stayed with me. Lately, I've been creating new and even more beautiful paper flowers for other weddings and baby showers.

Coming up with new shapes of flowers, new patterns, new petal forms has become more than a way to spend an afternoon at my home studio. I now know that those delicate wall flowers I've been making will go to very special people (Belinda and her daughter Lizzie), or that the paper flowers pomander that I created new peonies for will be enjoyed by Laura. Victoria will carry the paper flowers bouquet I made from designer paper (see below), while Lisa will hang my paper rose sphere somewhere in her home.

My paper decorations are not just things I do to relieve stress any more - they have lives of their own. And the people I'm making them for are not just people that shop through Etsy. They now have names and stories, and I'm so lucky to become a part of their big day, in a however small way.

Highlights from My Trip To Vienna

Vienna is magical this time of year. The Christkindlmarkt (Christmas Market) at Rathauspark is in full swing, and the snow that started falling last Saturday night turned our Austrian stay all the more delightful.

Graz was pretty awesome, too. Growing up in a small town and cobblestone streets in Macedonia, it was a great joy to visit Graz's pretty city squares designed just for pedestrians.

The cobblestones, which were repaved in my home town, are still at large in Austria.
What could be more charming? As you walk, each step has it's own melodic sound, especially if you walk on those high heels, terribly inadequate for long promenades :)

We found some great shops featuring handmade decoration pieces from independent artists, as well as always-stylish home accessories from Alessi (which are so hard to come by in the States).

I just love the hanging branches and presents in this window display :)

Another thing I'll remember Austria by: Maroni - the roasted chestnuts sold at every street corner.

I could never resist chestnuts in any form, but these delicious treats, though a bit expensive (10 chestnuts for 2.5 EUR), were absolutely perfect - every time.

In the end, Austria was all about re-connecting, eating (Sachertorte, maroni, fabulous breads, and lots of meat) and drinking (spiced wine, and lots of alcoholic coffees like "faiton" with a shot of rum or "corretto" - espresso with a shot of grappa).

Book Paper Roses in RePurposed Packaging

I've already written about my new-found use or re-use of plastic packaging that comes with my food - for example, my new pink paper roses come in repurposed egg packaging to shield them from the distresses of shipping. I've recently expanded on the idea to include plastic packaging that comes with certain types of veggies and herbs - like grape tomatoes, baby spinach, arugula, lettuce, mint, basil and so on.

So, now, every plastic thing that comes into our home gets properly cleaned and stored for future use (we do try so diligently to stay away from plastic packaging and bags, but sometimes even organic produce comes in #1 recyclable plastic things).

I find that storing pretty paper creations in these re-purposed boxes saves us a trip to the crafts store to buy cardboard boxes. Plus, you get to see what's inside the plastic - a big advantage in my book, since I keep plenty of these in my home studio. Easy reference saves time. Re-purposed materials save money. Good for me, good for the planet - everybody wins :)

And speaking of re-purposing materials, these roses were made from the pages of an old book. Once its pages served their purpose in the reading department, I decided to give them another life in another form - as petals for paper flowers which will continue to give joy to like-minded people.

A touch of ink here and there, a bit of wire at the back and these beauties are ready to adorn gifts, take the place of bookmarks, sit prettily in little vases, or become a part of something bigger than themselves, a handcrafted bouquet, or a wreath perhaps...

Vellum Ornament Lamp

The vellum ornaments I've mentioned in a previous post, besides hanging from a ceiling, can hold lights inside and serve as handmade lamps.

The vellum lamp shown above holds 10 LED string lights. I currently have it on a dresser in the bedroom where it glows in a bluish light. I plan to get more LED lights and make lamps in different sizes and colors.

Vellum paper is a wonderful thing - pliable and transparent, it can carry light in such a delightful way that I'm tempted to make my own lamp sculpture from vellum sheets.

For now, I have constructed a few geometric ornaments and punched discrete holes to let the light shine through.

When hanged from the ceiling at different heights, these vellum ornaments really draw the eye up, letting it rest on their symmetrical forms. And they move gently like a mobile - really soothing.

I Love Biscuits

Oh, biscuits... If there ever was a sweet piece that reminds me of my childhood days it is this one.

KerryLemon's "Biscuits" send me back to the old country where I would love nothing more than a glass of milk and a couple of biscuits before going to bed. My mom called it "something for sweet dreams", this little ritual.

Not such a great idea, eating sugary treats before bed, but I never had trouble sleeping. Plus, we didn't have high-fructose corn syrup in our sweets in those days.

Anyways, I like this print.

Owl Dress

I've been admiring mums and other fall flowers these days, and I've started re-creating them with book paper petals lightly touched with archival ink.

Each petal is cut and formed by hand, then glued in place, layer upon layer. I added a hook at the back of the flower for hanging, decorating a gift box, or for attaching a future stem to display it in a vase, and a nice brown button for the center.

More paper mums are in the making...Maybe I'll use them in a bridal bouquet, or for decorating gifts.

Autumn Lights

As the great Massachusetts skies turn dark and gray this fall, I will have to rely on light other than the Sun to keep my spirits warm and cozy.

While in the summer I would come home from work to an apartment drenched in sunlight, even after 7pm, the last few weeks, it's been consistently cloudy and dark by the time I got home.

Still, one flick of the switch, and our place turns cozy again. Add a few candles to the mix, and it's positively magical!

Even on my train-commute days (when I also walk 1.5 mile one way to my office, and sometimes catch the occasional rain on the way), this warm light makes me as happy as a cat in matter of minutes :)

Paper Roses in Egg Packaging

I've been hogging plastic egg packaging for a few weeks now and this weekend I've decided to use it for storing pretty paper roses.

I made these from pretty pink paper with added wires and paper leaves. They are about 2" in diameter - perfect for decorating something small, like a vase, or a gift box. Or as wedding favors.

I also use them as bookmarks :)

The packaging used to hold organic free range eggs coming from a local farm and I don't think I'll switch to other eggs any time soon. The only thing I didn't like about my eggs was the plastic packaging, but now, after finding a second use for it, I think I like them even more :)

So... a long delay, I know.

Not to go into too many details (mostly because I don't know who will end up reading my blog, and those who know me say I'm a "private creature") - it's been a crazy summer filled with bits of everything: good and bad, new beginnings, new home experiences, voyages back to dear old places, and lots and lots of work.

I'm back to blogging now, and as with every fall, I'm ready to embrace the cool new months ahead with vigor and creativity.

The first things on my To-Do list are paper flowers that some sweet brides-to-be have requested I make for them. So, stay in touch to see the vibrant paper flowers to come.

While I'm busy crafting pomanders, bouquets, wall flowers, LED flower decorations and more, I'll remember to take photos and share my ideas. I was happily surprised that some of these requests came to me because of this blog - even though I didn't update it in months. So now I feel even more motivated to post new ideas here and stay in touch with creative people.
